CROCHET PATTERNS (Flower Pattern #78 Spiderwort) – 365 Crochet Flowers Bouquet Project

Introduction

Spiderwort (Tradescantia) is a perennial plant native to the New World from Canada to Argentina. Tradescantia virginiana, the variety I’ve chosen, has blue flowers, with three petals and six stamens with yellow anthers and hairy blue filaments.

How to Crochet a Spiderwort Flower?

Crochet Yarn

  • Stranded embroidery cotton colour A = blue, colour B = yellow.

Crochet Hook

  •  1mm and 1.75mm steel hook.

Details of components

  • 3 petal flower with a blue puff of filaments finishing with yellow anthers.

Crochet Pattern

Petals Spiderwort crochet petals

Start: using 1.75 mm hook and colour A, make 5ch, join with sl st, 1ch

R1: 6sc in the ring, join with sl st, 1ch

R2: [(1sc, 5ch, 2sts-trtr cluster) in next sc, (2sts-trtr cluster, 5ch, 1sc) in next sc] repeat 3 times = 3 petals. Fasten off A.

Stamens (6pcs.)Spiderwort stamens

Start: using 1mm hook and colour A, make 5ch, change to colour B, fasten off A and make a small clone’s knot. Fasten off B. Make 6 pieces.

Puffy FilamentsSpiderwort puff filaments

Wrap colour A around tumb 6 times, pull off the loops and tie them together. Cut the loops open and trim them, so that they’ll be shorter than the filaments we just made.

 

Assembly

Position the stamens around the puff and fasten off.

Pull them through the petals’ ring. Hide all tails.
