About Hibiscus

Hibiscus, also known as Rose Mallow, Shrubby Mallow or Sorrel is a flowering plant from the mallow family. The upright branches are clothed with large blooms in beautiful colours, some species having a darker centre.

The leaves are ovate, many times with a toothed edge. The flowers are generally saucer-shaped with 5 or more petals, a showy stigma and many stamens. Others, like the variety in the photo have ruffled petals.
