CROCHET PATTERNS (Pattern #53 Japanese Beautyberries ) – 365 Flowers Bouquet Project

The Beautyberries shrub photographed by Louise I think it is the Japanese Callicarpa mollis variety. It is an ornamental evergreen bearing clusters of pink flowers which turn into edible berries, purple magenta in colour. The berries provide a long lasting colour to the bare branches of the shrub after the leaves fall in the autumn.

Start: using A and 2mm hook make 3ch, join in ring with sl st, 1ch

R1: 6sc in the ring, join with sl st, continue in spiral making 12sc, 1ch.

R2: (3sts-sc dec) x2 = 2sts. Finish off A.

I think this pattern was the shortest I’ve ever written. It is nothing difficult, just crocheting plain simple tiny cotton balls.

I went out to my overgrown garden (we had more than a fair share of rainy days this summer sad ) in search for a bear twig and I found one, pretty easily. It belonged to a Pretty Polly Plant. I only had to count the branches and make the same number of crocheted balls. I used Super Glue to stick them to the tips of the tiny branches.

Nothing complicated, today.  Japanese Beautyberries are done!

I’m so inspired by your work! I think what you are doing its amazing. A 365 flower project is so cool. Once I get better at crochet I want to do something similar not flowers but a 365 project of something different than squares or motifs thanks for sharing.
